Enhance Your Landscape by Raised Bed Gardening

Instead of opting for the conventional and routine growth of plants, bring a new style by raised bed gardening. It is a practice of raising a garden in the beds which are above ground structure. These are simply mounded up with sloping sides. Raised flower or vegetable garden bed brings diversity and provides a visual appeal to the landscape.

Landscaping timbers are used most commonly for making beds at three to four feet height above the ground. Even concrete blocks are used for raised beds. Then, soil is placed inside the structure. In order to prevent the growth of weeds, landscaping plastic is used in the bottom of the structure. The plants grown in raised beds can be planted closer. Even then, they have a high yield. So, many people prefer to have raised bed gardening.

As there is no foot traffic inside the beds, the soil in the raised bed gardens is loose. The loose soil allows deeper and stronger root growth with better penetration. If your area includes heavy clay or sand, or a pH imbalance, the soil can be adjusted based on your needs. However, they dry quickly and hence, ensure consequent and regular watering and fertilizing.

You can add a raised vegetable or flower bed in your yard. Raised vegetable garden beds can be constructed in various shapes, however, mostly they are constructed in square and rectangular shapes. A raised flower bed accentuates your landscape. Placing a raised flower bed at the entrance of your driveway or along a path or around your patio or deck further enhances the look of your house.
