What to Clean When You Move Out of Apartment

When you are preparing to move out of a rented apartment you will have a lot of stress. Something that adds to this stress of moving is the fact that you have to clean the apartment before you turn in the keys in order to get your security deposit back and avoid being charged for any cleaning charges. Also if you don't want to give the landlord any reason to feel that they have to hire someone by the hour, keep in mind that you may be charged as much as 20 dollars per hour for someone to clean your house or apartment after you move out. Hear is list that my wife has prepared when we are moving from our rented apartment to current San Diego apartment. This list consists of all the areas that need to be cleaned when you are moving out of your rented apartment.

  • Inside the Apartment:

o Clean the Floors

o Cleaning the Carpets

o Cleaning the Walls

o Cleaning the Windows, Doors and Blinds

o Cleaning the Light Fixtures, Fans, Fireplace and Heaters

  • Outside the Apartment:

o Look for Holes

o Look for Debris

o Leave the Lawn Looking Nice

o Clean the Doors and Windows

o Porches and Walkways May Need to Be Hosed Down

o Garages and Outbuildings Can Still Count as Needing to Be Cleaned

  • In the Kitchen:

o Cleaning the Floors

o Cleaning the Counters

o Cleaning the Sinks

o Cleaning the Appliances

o Cleaning the Cabinets and Drawers

  • In the Bathroom:

o Cleaning the Floors

o Cleaning the Bathtub and Shower

o Cleaning the Bathroom Sinks and Mirrors
