Symbian Operating System has efficient multitasking feature

Symbian Operating system is developed by Symbian limited. It is recognized and authorized operating system for fifty percent of smartphones. It is an advanced operating system that satisfies all the necessities of 2G, 2.5G, 3G mobile phones. Symbian Operating System is a combination of various applications environment, mobile telephony and provides advanced data services. The Smartphones of Nokia and few SonyEricson smartphones used this mobile operating system.

Features of Symbian Operating System:

Messaging: Symbian operating system provides full support to SMS, EMS, MMS, email and fax.

Open application environment: Symbian OS authorizes mobile phones to be a platform for implementation of applications and services developed in a wide range of languages (Programs and content developed in Java and C++ software languages).

Standards and interoperability: Symbian OS has flexibility to provide set of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and implement technologies that are shared by other symbian OS phones. It supports IP v4 and v6, Bluetooth wireless technology, Java, WAP and SyncML.

Multi-tasking: Symbian OS accommodates multi-tasking (Many tasks carried at a time). It performs tasks like communications, data management, graphics, Graphical User Interface (GUIs) framework and application engines at a time.

Robustness: It provides immediate access to user data.

Flexible user interface design: This feature makes Symbian OS offer choice for manufacturers, carriers, enterprises and end-users.

Strengths:
  • It is large developer association
  • It provides multi tasking facility
  • It has good hardware
Weaknesses:
  • The interface provided by Symbian OS for touch screen is not good.
  • There is no central application store.
